Smart glasses at Basildon Hospital speed up procedures

“Our waiting times are almost half of what they were!” – Chris Cook, Consultant Cardiologist at the Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK.

Smart glasses provide the Hospital with remote access to the Operating Room and are being used at Basildon Hospital to reduce waiting lists for heart procedures, particularly in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) heart procedures that replace diseased heart valves.

The remote technology enables staff to share live video and audio with industry experts who can provide guidance ahead of and during surgery, leading to more efficient and quicker procedures.

“For the NHS, it just opens up a whole new world of receiving real time support, receiving education and connecting with other world class centres.” Concluded Chandan J., remote technology lead for Boston Scientific EMEA who is supporting the hospital with the Rods&Cones technology.
