  • With the addition of this new technological equipment, the non-profit healthcare center can share live operating room experiences with remote audiences, inviting experts and medical professionals to witness surgeries in real time.
  • The new tool for remote access to the operating room for surgical collaboration will be integrated into urological procedures for prostate conditions.

Palma, March 7, 2025. The Creu Roja Hospital in Palma, a non-profit center integrated in the public hospital network of the Balearic Islands, has incorporated surgical telepresence in interventions for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with the aim of disseminating and promoting medical training. Yesterday, in the first broadcast intervention, 13 specialists connected from different parts of the world participated: Dubai, Seychelles, Canary Islands and the Peninsula.

Surgical telepresence transforms medical education, connecting operating rooms with experts around the world. This dynamic, two-way knowledge-sharing system enables immersive surgical views with remote audiences and a global reach. It also provides expert guidance directly in the operating room, providing critical support to surgeons during procedures.

Dr. Víctor Parejo, responsible for piloting the integration of this technology at Creu Roja Hospital, states that “the interaction between duly selected experts in real time allows the best surgical knowledge, collaboration and experience to be brought together with the aim of providing the best care to patients”.

He adds that “having a second or even a third pair of eyes can make all the difference in complex procedures. With remote assistance, experts from anywhere in the world can join in, seeing precisely what we see in the operating room, providing critical information when it is most needed.”

Dr. Parejo has a degree in medicine from the University of Barcelona and is a specialist in Urology at the Hospital Universitari Parc Taulí, specializing in prostatic hyperplasia by laser energy (HOLEP), laparoscopic and retroperitoneal surgery, as well as in sexual medicine and andrology.

With the incorporation of this more powerful and cutting-edge technology, the hospital continues its efforts to provide the hospital with the best equipment. And in this way, continue with its transformation, a process that began 3 years ago with the comprehensive renovation of the building and all its facilities, and that continues now with the incorporation of this urological service.
