A Surgeon’s Perspective on cORe: “It’s Like Having Your Colleague Next to You”

A Surgeon’s Perspective on cORe: “It’s Like Having Your Colleague Next to You”

In this interview, Dr. Alex Nap, Interventional Cardiologist at AUMC Amsterdam, shares how cORe could support daily clinical collaboration. From instant connection to real-time case review, here is his experience in his own words.

Conversation with Rods&Cones and Doctor Nap

Rods&Cones (R&C):

How easy is it to connect with cORe?

Dc Nap:

It’s very easy. If you see the panel, you just press one button and you’re online. You’re in contact with your colleagues. So it’s very, very easy.

When you use cORe, I think it can kind of replace somebody having next to you because you can switch on, you have contact, they can see whatever you do, they can have a conversation with you. So it’s like you have your colleague next to you reviewing the case together with you and operate as we decide together.

R&C:

Can you imagine receiving remote support using cORe?

Dc Nap:

Yeah, absolutely. So, it would be very helpful to set things up and make things very easy and, and appreciable and approachable for us. So it would be great to have industry connected to us to facilitate the implementation of core.

R&C:

Can you compare this experience to having somebody next to you?

Dc Nap:

When you use Core, I think it can kind of replace somebody having next to you because you can switch on, you have contract, they can see whatever you do, they can have a conversation with you. So it’s like you have your, your colleague next to you reviewing the case together with you and operate as we decide together.

R&C:

How would you use cORe in your daily practice?

Dc Nap:

Well, on a daily base, we have a lot of fellows that do procedures for us. So they are actually in the cath lab doing the procedure and we are wandering around somewhere in the hospital. So if they want to have a contact with me or have a question nowadays, I have to walk through the hospital and go and see and, and what they are doing, uh, on the cath lab.

With the core, it would be very helpful and easy. When he has a question or she has a question, he just puts one, one button and we’re in direct contact and I can see what he’s doing. I can see the problems. You can review the, the engine screen, you can have a conversation with him, even with the nurses. So it would be very helpful to have direct contact right away.

R&C:

How was your experience with the audio connection when communicating with your team?

Dc Nap:

You can have audio on the mics, but also on the tablets. And I think when you’re working on a daily basis, the tablet itself is more than enough to have good contact and, and good audio with them. So you can set the whole system up as performing a live case. But with the core itself, the platform and, and the tablet, that’s enough to have a good conversation in good quality.

R&C:

Can we conclude that this helps you do more and support more, on a daily basis?

Dc Nap:

When I’m busy, I can still overview and help my colleagues wherever I am. So on a daily basis, it will really help and it would really facilitate me doing other stuff.
