Rods&Cones is collaborating with Amsterdam UMC (Amstel Academie) to further develop innovative approaches to simulation-based training for operating room and anesthesia assistants.
The collaboration is supported through the DUTCH Calls, a programme of the Dutch National Growth Fund, for the further development of innovative simulation-based training.
Addressing the need for scalable training
Training enough operating room and anesthesia assistants remains a challenge. Practical training hours in the operating room are limited, while supervising students requires valuable time from healthcare professionals at a time when healthcare is already under considerable pressure.
Part of the solution lies in finding smarter and more scalable ways to train.
Together, Amsterdam UMC (Amstel Academie) and Rods&Cones will further develop an approach using smart glasses and 360° video to support simulation-based training.
This allows more students to learn, observe and provide feedback simultaneously, including remotely, helping to increase training capacity while maintaining the quality of the learning experience.
From the Netherlands to the Caribbean
The approach will be further developed and tested for implementation in both the Netherlands and the Caribbean.
By combining simulation-based training with remote collaboration, the initiative explores new ways to make learning accessible to more students, regardless of location. This contributes to DUTCH’s objective of replacing part of in-person education with simulation-based education, helping to expand educational capacity in healthcare.
